A NIGHT IN OSUN (1)

A

In the midst of a common night
Just when it chimed two,
With Sleep my partial foe
I lay on my bed unfriended by Dreams.
I lay turning, turning, turning
Turning the day’s events
Planning the coming.
And suddenly, I hear a wailing bird
Shrieking like it lost her precious left wing
Yelling with a crashing noise
Calling an immediate assembly
Of all indigenes of the shrouded world.

She wailed for seven complexed minutes
And wailed some more.
Then suddenly the peace
That ran at sight of her woes
Returned in Sleep’s company
Sending me immediately to dreamland.

This is my typical night
Shared with my wailing friend
Perplexed at her burden
Nonplussed at her wailing zeal
-Promises of another night of wails
In the land of the Living Spring.
