I understand that feeling. I understand how twisted, muddied over, grown over, hidden away and compromised your passion can get over the years. Going through school convinces you of the standard life plan that you should fit into. Looking at people that have tried and failed convinces you that you
should be safe and realistic. Listening to
people around you convinces you of what you should do. Watching TV and movies gives you aspirations for things that you don’t actually need and may be don’t actually want, but media tells you that you want it. You look at rich people, hollywood actors, hollywood lifestyles and you get convinced that you want that. You get distracted from your dreams and your passions by these models of what a happy successful life should look like, of these shows and movies presenting to you a shiny,
exciting life and passion. But it’s not your own. That’s someone else’s passion, someone else’s life and their personality and talents and life.
It’s easy to get caught up in someone else’s passion, in their energy, their excitement, their success and their results. And to an extent, there’s nothing wrong with that.
It’s great to get inspired, motivated and
learn some things from other successful or passionate people. But don’t make the mistake of taking their vision and their passion on board as your own. Take the lessons, methods, energy and other parts from them, but don’t let their passion distract you from yours.
So forget other people’s dreams, forget their advice or cautions. Strip away the years of complication and confusion and distraction.
And most importantly, step away from the fear that stops you from facing up to what your passion is.
Do what you love most.
Life is richer with you.
